Congratulations to all the runners who took part in the Econet Victoria Falls Marathon which took place on 3rd July 2016. The event saw a comprehensive field of runners take to the road in the Econet Full Marathon (42 Km), Half Marathon (21 km) and the Eco Sure fun run (7.5km).
The marathon results are out and can be accessed on the official Econet Victoria Falls Marathon page. New Chip technology on the Race Bibs was implemented the first time this year to ensure more reliable and instant results and finish time recording. It also allowed monitoring for any potential cheating on route easier, by having specific pods out on route that recording runner’s numbers and times as they pass them.
Shadrek Mudimbu won the full marathon in the male category in a time of 2 hours and 19 minutes and 3 seconds while Veteran Thabitha Tsatsa (42) defended her title in the women’s category, winning in a time of 2 hours 50 minutes and 45 seconds. Wirimai Juwawo won the half marathon in the male category in a time of 1 hour and 6 minutes and 16 seconds, while Elfrod Moyo won the women’s category in a time of 1 hour 9 minutes and 4 seconds.
It was also good to see a lot of children participating in the Eco sure fun run, enjoying the good weather and really buying into the festive atmosphere prevalent on the day.
The success of this year’s marathon paves the way for next year’s event which promises be bigger and better following on the event’s ever increasing popularity.
