Young Air Zimbabwe pilot Elizabeth Simbi Petros, pulled off an incredible emergency landing during a Victoria Falls-bound Air Zimbabwe flight
She battled for about an hour in bad weather, desperately trying to land the aircraft. The plane had flown into Bulawayo at 7.30AM but only touched the ground at 8.15AM after two futile attempts.
Captain Petros was given a standing ovation by elated passengers when she finally managed to land the aircraft at the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport in Bulawayo on Saturday morning.
Rural Development, Preservation of Culture and Heritage Minister Abedinico Ncube and Zimpapers board chairperson Mr Delma Lupepe who were on board commended Captain Petros for displaying calm in the midst of “a storm.”
