After a lot of confusion and speculation in the Tourism Industry in Zimbabwe it is now clear that the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority ( ZIMRA ) will be charging VAT on some tourism services “foreign tourist receipts” which were previously Zero Rated, and that this will be effected immediately as of January this year. There is further confusion on whether the VAT is to be charged on all services or just on accommodation and as a result we are waiting further information in this regard. It is also unclear whether the VAT will be back dated to the beginning of the month – 1st January. We will publish the confirmed findings as soon as we have them.
