A young Zimbabwean musician has been selected to perform at the All Africa Music Awards in Lagos on Dec 27th.
The group is named ‘Dear Zim’ and is one of the 5 finalists nominated for the “Best African Rock” category. Afrima were forced to postpone the awards ceremony due to the ebola crisis.
Dear Zim is fronted by local man David Westerhout who composes all the music and lyrics and, in the production of CDs plays all the instruments and sings all the vocal parts. These are all joined together in the final CD. For live shows ‘Dear Zim’ uses other musicians on stage. Fortunately the awards celebration will have a ‘house band’ on stage and David Westerhout will perform with this band providing accompaniment . He is an old boy of St John’s College and has been studying at the Berklee College Of Music in Boston, USA.
