Mozambique’s state-run oil and gas company Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH) is set to resume oil prospecting in the Zambezi River delta next year, ENH chief executive Tavares Martinho announced Monday. Martinho said several companies have shown interest in exploring for oil in the delta amid indications that there may actually be oil in commercial quantities.
He said the main obstacles currently encountered in commencing the exploration activities were the poor road and other transport infrastructure in the region.
“We hope to roll out everything in 2015,” Martinho is quoted as saying by private television station STv.
ENH is partnering a Nigerian company Orlean Invest that was awarded a contract to build a new port in the city of Pemba, the capital of Cabo Delgado province, in northern Mozambique.
