Air Namibia is reportedly considering acquiring new, larger aircraft to replace a fleet of four ERJ-135‘s on lease from Régional (YS, Nantes) until 2016.

According to Namibia’s Economist, Xavier Masule, the General Manager for Commercial Services at Air Namibia, said while the Namibian national carrier is happy with the aircraft’s performance thus far, given the rates at which traffic levels on the ERJ-135’s routes are growing, the airline anticipates that the type will likely prove inadequate come 2016.

“So we need to look at slightly bigger capacity than the current 37 seats or increase frequencies on these routes,” Masule said.

The ERJ’s are currently deployed on flights from Windhoek International to Harare International, Luderitz, Lusaka, Maun, Oranjemund, Victoria Falls, Walvis Bay as well as from Windhoek Eros to Mpacha, Ondangwa and Rundu.
