Over the weekend of September 27th-29th, off road motorcycle enthusiasts from all over southern Africa gathered in Victoria Falls to support the Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust Fund Raiser.
The event kicked off at Imvelo Gorges Lodge in the Hwange rural district communal lands on mid-day Friday the 27th. The 80km course was relatively short, but a little challenging. More than 70 riders turned out for the event with riders of all ages and abilities taking part. Despite the warm temperatures fun was had by all. In the evening the participants enjoyed a barbeque super with live music by Evicted at the Imvelo Gorges Lodge campsite.
Saturday was an early start for the long ride, meeting at the pits to fuel up and attend to minor repairs. The first riders lead by David Reeve Dakar Rally Rider left for the 150km course. Once the riders had all departed on the long ride, the children’s under the supervision of Charles Bender and Ian Gloss enjoyed a 15km ride on a course designed to accommodate those just learning about the sport.
Apart from a lost rider, with mechanical problems the day was a great success. Saturday evening local Victoria Falls residents and most of the Riders enjoyed the festivities at the Gala dinner hosted by the Zambezi Helicopter Company.
Overall the event was a massive success, raising the much needed funding for VFWT to continue its work. For more information on the Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust see our web site. Next year’s event is already scheduled for May 2nd and 3rd.
