While fishing can be productive at any time of the year along the Zambezi River, it is as the winter months draw to a close and a rise in temperatures brings warmth to the water, that some species of fish suddenly become more active and begin to rise to the bait.
Now is when the tigerfishing season starts in earnest. The months of September and October, with high temperatures, no rainfall and clear waters are particularly productive. Whether you are in it for the sport (the legendary tigerfish is famous for putting up a fearsome fight), for the competition (Kariba’s annual Tigerfishing Tournament in October attracts entries from all over the world) or simply for the pot (freshly-caught local Tilapia (Bream) species are quite delicious) – you will be guaranteed fabulous fishing along the Zambezi during the next few months.
