Resurgent national carrier Air Zimbabwe has added another new route to ferry passengers between Johannesburg and the resort town of Victoria Falls. Initially the flights will be offered twice a week on Mondays and Fridays with prospects of increasing the frequency in response to the volume of passengers. The inaugural flight touched down at Victoria Falls shortly before lunch on Friday afternoon and took off for Johannesburg with some passengers and journalists at 1.10pm aboard a leased Embraer jet.
Air Zimbabwe spokesperson Ms Shingi Taruvinga said the new route was introduced in response to customer requirements and the high numbers of tourists travelling between Johannesburg and the Victoria Falls.
She said that the airline was intensifying efforts to restore market confidence since its return to the skies last year after economic challenges grounded the fleet.
“We will continue to open new frontiers and expand our route network in response to market needs. Our thrust is to demystify the concept of flying that it is only for the rich and that is the reason why we have extended the duration of our promotions.”

Since resuming flying at the end of last year, Air Zimbabwe is now flying daily between Harare and Johannesburg as well as on domestic routes to Bulawayo and Victoria Falls. Plans are also afoot to resume long-haul flights to the United Kingdom before the end of the year. Part of the Air Zimbabwe fleet includes an Airbus A320, two Embraer jets, a Boeing 737 and a Boeing 767.
Air Zimbabwe hopes to capitalise on the number of tourists visiting the Victoria Falls from Johannesburg and increase volumes of passengers using the airline.
Please also note that the fare will remain at USD275 return until end of September 2013.
