Thompsons Africa has released its new brochure collection, which includes dedicated safari and luxury travel brochures.

On Safari with Thompsons Africa“Southern Africa’s rich variety of national parks, and many private game reserves and lodges form part of almost every visitor’s itinerary, so the production of a separate publication, specifically highlighting and expanding on the region’s wonderfully diverse safari offering, was inevitable,” said Linda Pampallis, CEO of Thompsons Africa.

Pampallis added that the ‘On Safari with Thompsons Africa’ brochure features packages in and around the Kruger National Park, the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, the Timbavati and the Eastern Cape as well as packages offered in other Southern African countries, including Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, and Kenya.

The ‘Luxury Journeys by Thompsons Africa’ brochure features luxury packages in South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Kenya and Namibia.

Below is a bit of information about key attractions in each country.

Fish River CanyonNamibia – This is a land of wide and sunny skies, seemingly endless stretches of golden desert dunes and other-worldly rocky plains. The combination of a vast country, largely untouched by man, and a relatively tiny population, makes Namibia the ultimate getaway.

The desolate Fish River Canyon in the south is second only to the Grand Canyon in size and grandeur. From there it’s a short hop to Lüderitz, where the ghost town of Kolmanskop is a huge source of fascination to visitors. It boomed during the gold rush, but today is partially reclaimed by the encroaching desert.

The towering sand dunes at Sossusvlei are utterly mesmerising and those who explore them soon discover that deserts are anything but lifeless, once their eyes adapt to the subtlety and scale of the intricate life forms. The dead pan here is a vast expanse of bleached and cracked mud, dotted with the skeletons of ancient thorn trees, with dramatic crimson dunes as a backdrop  –  a photographer’s paradise!

Swakopmund is a charming coastal town in the midst of desert and dunes, with every evidence of its German origins. It’s also Namibia’s adventure hub. Take a dolphin cruise from nearby Walvis Bay and you’ll have seals trying to hitch a free ride on board your boat! Quad bike or sand board over those awesome dunes, then feast on oysters and champagne as the setting sun sheds its light over sand and sea.

Vic Falls 1Zimbabwe – Shrouded in mists and rainbows and enveloped by evergreen forests, ‘The Falls’ is a breathtaking sight and an unforgettable experience. Its might and majesty has spawned a thriving adventure and sport industry in the area: you can go jet boarding, bungi jumping, quad biking or white water rafting. The less energetic can take a helicopter flip over ‘The Falls’, sip wine on a sundowner cruise or shop at the local craft markets.

Okavango wildlifeBotswana – If you’re looking for one of the few unspoilt regions in Africa, this wild and beautiful country is for you. This is true African wilderness, where animals roam freely, and visitors are flown into the remote camps, from which they can explore the area.

The unique and fascinating Okavango Delta is an inland waterway with a remarkable environment comprising diverse habitats, with numerous species of mammals, birds and fish.

On the eastern fringe of the Delta lies the Moremi Game Reserve, famous for its huge wildlife population, including herds of elephant, buffalo, giraffe and antelope. Another most unusual area is the Linyanti Region, to the north east, where in the dry season you can see hundreds of buffalo, sometimes with a pride of lion in pursuit.

Walking Safaris ZambiaZambia – Zambia is a vast landlocked country in central Africa. When it comes to wildlife, Zambia is blessed with both diversity and abundance, offering some of the wildest and most remote game areas on the continent. It was in Zambia that the concept of walking safaris was initiated as the best way of enjoying the rich flora and fauna of the country’s 19 National Parks.

Birdlife is particularly prolific and draws birders from all over the world.
