The Australian Government has downgraded its travel advice regarding Zimbabwe, effective 1 August 2012.  A summary of the new advice is as follows :

The previous advice was level 3 of 4, which stated that Australians should reconsider their need to travel.  The new advice advises Australian travellers to “Exercise a high degree of caution (level 2 of 4).

The new travel advice continues to alert Australians in Zimbabwe to the risk of crime and potential for civil unrest and political violence.

It continues to note the potential for  the security situation to deteriorate quikcly in response to political events.

The new level for Zimbabwe is consistent with the advice provided by our consular partners:

– Canada has an identical level of “Exercise a high degree of caution (level 2 of 4)

– The UK and the US have no travel restrictions in place for Zimbabwe.

This new advice reflects our best judgement on the changed security conditions in Zimbabwe
