Under the expert guidance of coach and former national fast bowler David Mutendera, Zimbabwe’s livewire under-13 cricket team swept all before them at the recent Easterns Cricket Union Festival at Springs, South Africa.
Winning all seven of their matches in commanding style, the Zimbabwe under-13 team was named Team of the Tournament and showed that there is some rich talent emerging for the good of the future of Zimbabwe cricket.
The team’s kit was proudly sponsored by Victoria Falls Safari Lodge, voted Zimbabwe’s Best Safari Lodge for 16 consecutive years by the Association of Zimbabwe Travel Agents (AZTA). Thanks to this generous sponsorship the team was the smartest on display! Zimbabwe under-13 was captained by the feisty Taun Harrison whose accurate spinners were a key weapon, while vice-captain was Alistair Frost who weighed in with a raft of good performances with the bat. Richie Matewa won the Player of the Tournament award, scoring 3 fifties over the seven match series.
