The Southern Province and especially those of us in Livingstone were honoured to be the first in Zambia to have a visit from THE cup – Africa Cup of Nations, of which Zambia are CHAMPIONS (just in case anyone has been on a deserted island and missed it!).

Safpar helped the boys and their entourage enjoy their visit to our lovely tourism Capital by taking them to Zambezi Elephant Trails, Lion Encounter and for a breakfast cruise on the much loved MV Makumbi. An amazing week-end full of pride and happiness was enjoyed by everyone, I think my personal highlight was watching Madinda one of our elephants kicking a ball around with the Zambian coach Herve Renard. Liwa, another of our elephants tried to join in but got the rules a bit wrong by picking the football up in her trunk and hurling it behind her each time!

2013 sees the bicentenary of David Livingstone’s birth (19th March 1813). A committee has been put together to host a series of arts, cultural and sporting events to commemorate this special time through out next year, we will of course keep you updated on these. The official launch of this project was recently held in The Livingstone Museum to top government officials and the new British High Commissioner in Zambia as well as many members from our tourism industry.

Safari Par Excellence and David Livingstone Safari Lodge & Spa were the main sponsors of the launch with a delicious lunch hosted at DLSL after the event.

Exciting news from Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park! On February 16th, another rhino calf was born. This takes the number of white rhinos in the park up to 5 adults and 3 young ones, wonderful news and they are all doing very well under the watchful 24 hour care of our ZAWA (Zambian Wildlife Authority) guards. The babies are all female and healthy which is great for future breeding hopes.

Zambia is becoming much more accessible with new airlines flying into the country.

Emirates are already flying into Lusaka five times a week and KLM will start flying to Lusaka in May three times a week.

In October, Air Namibia will be flying directly into Livingstone 4 times a week from Windhoek.

So come for a visit to Zambia – it’s so easy to get to us nowadays!
