AN APPEAL FROM GWERU SPCA – Hi All,

I hope this email finds you well, we had a very very sad trip to the Gweru SPCA this afternoon and it brought tears to our eyes. I can’t thank Shirley and her team of staff enough for the wonderful work they are doing. Sadly there is only so much they can do with the support they are getting. Mr Gumbo the vet who assists with the animals needs has been an absolute God send. Just a few of the stories we have been filled in today by one of the staff who work at the SPCA. There are about 5 dogs who have been taken in by SPCA who were strayed and abandoned. There are a few who have been given back to SPCA by people who thought they could take care of these animals, Sadly they can’t and have been returned. Some of the cases have been terrible, the dogs were not looked after at all. But thanks to Shirley and her team these animals have a home and a meal every day. Yesterday a cat was bought in to the SPCA for attention as it had been hit by a car, sadly it didn’t make it through the night. Everything that could have been done was done; (Makes me sad to see some of the cases that have been bought in to SPCA. I have loaded some photos of a cat who was re-homed a while ago… SPCA got reports of abuse… and when they got to the cat it had been so badly abused it started chewing its leg where it had a wound. Its ear has also been badly damaged the Vet amputated the ear. Next week the cat’s leg has to be removed, I hope the wound on the other leg heals. Please please I ask you if you have a space in your home to please give these wonderful animals a home they are so wonderful. We spent about half an hour trying to cuddle and love every single dog, cat and donkeys. Some of these animals were so badly abused to get close to them was really hard. Some got so excited. Others wouldn’t even come close to the cages. We ask you for your help please, any donations would be greatly appreciated. Here is a list of some of the items that the SPCA are in desperate need of; If you are In Zimbabwe whether it be Harare, Victoria Falls, Bulawayo. Or even the smaller towns, and you have some things to donate I will organise and arrange collection of these items. Please ask the people around you as well for any donations. Anything will be very very much appreciated.

1) Chicken wire, mesh, any pieces of fencing that could be used to repair the cages!!
2) Mealie meal, dog meal, cat biscuits, vegetables,
3) Dog and cat dips, even cattle dip for the donkeys,
4) Blankets, old clothing, carpets, etc.

If you are feeling generous and would like to make cash donations towards electrical and water bills, or any other necessities, you are welcome to deposit these funds in to my account and I will personally go and make these payments and send you proof of payments.

Your assistance and kindness will be greatly appreciated.

Kindest Regards Sara Smit sarzsmit21@yahoo.co.uk
