The Zambian government plans to upgrade facilities and infrastructure in Livingstone, launching the city as Zambia’s official tourist capital.

Minister of Information, Broadcasting and Tourism, Given Lubinda, said that although Livingstone was already the country’s tourism capital, improvements were needed to infrastructure and services.

The minister said the government would demonstrate in a “practical” sense what it meant for Livingstone to be a tourist capital.

In conjunction with the upgrade of facilities and infrastructure, Zambia will also launch a special campaign in 2013 to coincide with the hosting of various major international events in Livingstone.
